Green Roofs and Rooftop Patios

A flat roof on any building presents a great opportunity to expand a building's usable space.  Over the last decade a global trend has developed based on the concept of turning the roof of apartment buildings into park space for the use and enjoyment of its residents.  There are two main driving forces behind this trend:

The first is a shortage of usable park or green space in the city.  Unlike the suburbs where people have the luxury of a front and/or backyard, property value is a premium making for such amenities nearly impossible.

The second argument for a usable roof is the benefit of adding plants, vegetation and small trees to the urban environment.  Not only are they responsible for cleaning the air and creating oxygen, but offer a relaxing break from the 'concrete jungle' of the urban landscape.

A roof deck (roof-top patio) can be used for entertaining guests, relaxing in private, or as a rooftop garden.  G.D.S. has developed an 'ideal roof traffic' system that easily transforms an unused roof surface into the perfect rooftop oasis.

The transformation of an unused roof to a roof top oasis is fairly simple with the DEC-K-ING 60 mil vinyl membranes which are fully adhered to the substrate, and the seams permanently fused together with a hot air tool.  Planter boxes of any size and depth can be created and covered with DEC-K-ING vinyl membranes.  These planter boxes can be used to plant vegetable gardens, bushes, plants, and even small trees.  Patio chairs, tables, lawn chairs and even barbeques also add to the enjoyment and use of the deck.
